Fold-and-Form: Minimal-Disruption Trenchless Rehab in a Historic Scenic Area

Restored 400m of DN200–DN300 sewage pipes inside a historic scenic area with zero surface excavation and minimal disruption to daily tourism.

Project Overview & Challenge

During a routine inspection at a national 3A-level scenic spot in Zhejiang, China, underground sewage leaks were detected within a main utility trench. The leaking DN200–DN300 corrugated pipes threatened both the local ecosystem and the visitor experience, making immediate renewal critical. However, open-cut excavation was strictly prohibited as the pipeline ran beneath historic blue-stone pavements.


The project presented extreme spatial and logistical challenges: the 400-meter pipe network sat inside a confined 1400mm*1100mm underground trench packed with live utilities.


Additionally, narrow alleyways forced support vehicles to park over 100 meters away from the entry points. To protect local businesses and heavy daytime tourist traffic, the work required temporary bypass pumping and overnight execution.




The Solution & Execution

To overcome these site constraints, Fold-and-Form PVC Lining was selected as the optimal trenchless solution.


After clearing the existing line and installing new PE inspection chambers, the flexible Fold-and-Form liner was pulled through the narrow trench over a 100+ meter setup distance. Once in place, the liner was heated and pressurized to expand, forming a seamless, structural pipe within the host line.
