Fold-and-Form Lining:Rehabilitation of DN600 Coastal Wastewater Pressure Pipeline

During a routine inspection of the coastal wastewater pipeline in Zhuhai, a significant overflow of sewage was discovered.

Project Background

During a routine inspection of the coastal wastewater pipeline in Zhuhai, a significant overflow of sewage was discovered. The investigation revealed that the pipeline in question is a DN600 steel pressure pipe with a length of 129 meters. Further internal assessments indicated extensive corrosion, with the bottom of the pipe completely eroded and soil exposed. This deterioration resulted in wastewater leaking into the sea, posing a serious environmental pollution risk.

Rehabilitation Plan Discussion and Justification

The pipeline's location on Qixiu Road, a vital coastal tourist route adjacent to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, presented unique challenges. The pipeline runs through a greenbelt area filled with ornamental trees, making traditional excavation methods highly destructive to the local environment. Such methods would not only take a considerable amount of time but would also severely affect the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the surrounding tourist area.

After thorough comparison and evaluation, we decided to implement the minimally invasive Fold and Form Pipe Lining Technology. This innovative approach minimizes excavation, reduces construction time, and preserves the integrity of the surrounding landscape.

Technical Advantages

  1. Environmental Protection: The Fold and Form technology significantly limits damage to the surrounding greenery, preserving the local ecosystem and ensuring that tourist attractions remain intact.

  2. Rapid Installation: Compared to conventional methods, this technology allows for a much quicker repair process, reducing the disruption to local traffic and tourism.

  3. Enhanced Durability: The lining created through this method improves the overall strength of the pipeline, extending its lifespan and lowering future maintenance costs.

  4. Versatile Solution: This technology is adaptable to various pipe materials and sizes, making it suitable for a wide range of rehabilitation projects.

Construction Process

  1. Site Assessment: A comprehensive evaluation of the pipeline was conducted to determine the extent of the corrosion and the specific repair requirements.

  2. Pipeline Preparation: The affected section of the pipeline was cleaned and prepared to ensure optimal adhesion of the lining material.

  3. Lining Installation: The Fold and Form technology was utilized to insert the lining material into the pipe. Heat was then applied to restore it to its original shape, forming a new, durable inner wall.

  4. Quality Control and Restoration: After installation, rigorous quality checks were performed to ensure the repair met all necessary standards. The surrounding area was then restored to its original condition.

Project Outcomes

The successful implementation of the Fold and Form Pipe Lining Technology effectively resolved the corrosion issues of the DN600 pipeline while protecting the local environment. This project not only enhanced the functionality of the wastewater system but also contributed to the preservation of Zhuhai's scenic coastal area.
